FAQ's
Beef Questions
Is this beef USDA approved?
Yes. We have a USDA inspector on site daily to inspect the meat and our operations.
Where do you get your cattle?
We use our own cattle as well as work with local ranchers around the Treasure Valley. We make sure we support and work with local ranchers! If we run short on specific cuts, especially for our wholesale clients, we will occasionally buy the local product from CS Beef. But our retail delivery product is almost always from our own cattle or that of other local ranchers we work with.
What kind of beef is it?
Angus and Angus blends.
What grade is the meat?
While we are supportive of the USDA efforts to grade meat as a help to consumers, the process is very expensive. Because of the cost of having meat graded, we do not grade all of our meat. When we do, it is all Prime and Choice. On top of that, our beef comes from Angus cattle, which is prized for it's quality. It is a premium product and you'll be able to taste the difference. But again, we would rather pass on to you a savings by not paying to grade all of it. So what we can promise is that it would have been at least Select, and most often it would have been Choice and Prime had we graded it. You'll need to taste it and be the judge of the quality we offer. If you are absolutely set on buying graded meat, let us know and we will send you the meat that has been graded. It will cost you a little more, but we are happy to provide you with it.
How long is the meat frozen before it gets to my door?
In most cases, when you place an order we cut it and package it on the spot. It is then frozen overnight to ensure a fresh delivery. The next day it is delivered to your door! We highly recommend that you place a cooler on your porch if you are not there to receive the meat in person. In a cooler, the meat will stay frozen until you get home. When we have extra inventory it's frozen for no more than a couple of days. Bottomline, everything we deliver is very fresh!
Pork Questions
Where does our pork come from?
Hoagland meat does not raise of process pork. So we went looking for the cleanest source of pork we could find.
All of our pork is raised and processed in Idaho by Salmon Creek Farms. We chose them because of their dedication to clean, healthy pork. All of their animals are free-range, grass-fed, anti-biotic free, no added hormones, slow-grown, and responsibly raised. It's hard to find a cleaner source of pork anywhere.
Their sister company, Falls Brand, does further curing and processing for items like Hams, Bacon and Sausage, again with an eye on clean, healthy meat.
Is the pork natural and raised responsibly?
Yes.

Chicken Questions
Where does your chicken come from?
At Hoagland Meat we do not raise or process chickens. So we went looking for the best provider of local, healthy, responsibly-raised chicken.
Unfortunately, while there are some good healthy chicken producers in Idaho, none of them produce the kind of volume we need.
But then we found Smart Chicken. One look and one taste, we were sold!
It is the only meat we offer that is not raised and processed in Idaho. It comes out of the mid-west. But it is the cleanest chicken on the market and has so many benefits that we couldn't turn it down.
Read the next question for details, then try it. We think you will join thousands of others who think it is the best chicken available.
Is it clean and responsibly-raised?
Smart Chicken is some of the cleanest chicken brands available today. It is:
- Free-range
- Slow-grown
- Never any added hormones
- Never any antibiotics
- Fed a vegetarian, non-GMO diet
- Humanely raised and harvested
- Air-chilled, meaning that it is not soaked in water during the processing, a processes that can promote and spread disease.
- And more.
They have spent so much attention to detail that it is impressive. Try it, and taste the difference.
Why is it more expensive than other brands of chicken I see at the grocery store?
The chicken at the grocery store is usually mass produced as rapidly as possibly. Hormones and other chemicals are often used to accelerate growth and decrease the time to harvest. The chickens are often full of antibiotics. They are usually not free-range, often living their entire lives in a small cage. They are often fed a diet that includes ground up chicken! During processing, the chickens are water chilled, adding water weight and running the risk of disease transmission. All of this creates a cheaper, more abundant product, that is not as healthy and that tastes very different that what you will experience with Smart Chicken.
Is it worth a little more?
We think so. So do thousands of other people. It tastes better and is much better for you and your family.
But you'll have to be the ultimate judge. Read up on it (you can find the brand online and learn a little from out site.). We think you;ll be impressed with the efforts they have gone through to keep their animals clean and healthy.
Then, try it! We know from experience that you will enjoy the freshness and taste of the product.
Do you have any other chicken besides Smart Chicken?
We only offer Smart Chicken to our online purchasers and subscribers.
We do have another brand of chicken that we occasionally stock in our store and for some of our wholesale clients. It is a good, healthy brand, but not nearly as clean as Smart Chicken. But it is a little less expensive.
If you would like to check out our other brand of chicken, come into our storefront in Homedale. We'd be happy to have you purchase it there and try it.

FAQ's
SNAP/EBT Questions
What products can I use my SNAP/EBT with?
Almost all individual retail products at Hoagland Meat are eligible for purchase with your SNAP/EBT benefits.
Your benefits can only be applied to one-time purchases and not subscriptions, because SNAP/EBT does not allow for recurring payments. Because of this, our curated subscription boxes are not eligible for purchase with SNAP/EBT. But you can certainly duplicate the contents of a box you like by ordering each of the items in the box as one order. You will need to do this each month if you want something similar to a monthly subscription.
Call our office if you have any questions, concerns or trouble checking out.
