Our Story
Hoagland Meat’s motto is “Local Meat for Local People”, and we mean it.
The Hoagland family has been in the cattle industry for over 70 years and four generations, producing high-quality, responsibly raised, angus beef.
The first Hoagland in our family line to settle in southern Idaho was in the early 1900’s.
By 1953, Ray & Faye Hoagland (then around 40 years old) purchased a 180-acre farm on Rabbit Creek in Owyhee County from Wes Paynter. Wes’s cattle brand was W/P and this remains our brand to this day. Shortly after that, they purchased another ranch on the snake river, just down from Walter’s Ferry. This is where their son and daughter-in-law, Jim & Lita Hoagland would settle and raise three children, Steve, Rex, and Debbie.
A couple of decades ago, Rex and his wife, Karen, settled on Walking Plow Ranch to support Lita with the daily cattle operation as the family business continued to grow.
Over the years, the Hoagland family has worked with local farmers and ranchers by purchasing their calves and cows. From finishing cattle on quality feed to assisting law enforcement to help recover stolen animals, we have always stayed disciplined by keeping integrity in our work.
But for years, we dreamed about the day we could support the local community by processing our own beef, and the beef of other local ranchers, offering the finished product directly to our neighbors in the Treasure Valley. With the acquisition, upgrade, and re-branding of Owyhee Meat Co., in the spring of 2022, we have been able to achieve that dream. The result is Hoagland Meat, the Treasure Valley’s premier source for fresh, local beef.
JD Hoagland, Rex and Karen’s son, now runs Hoagland Meat as the CEO, bringing another generation into the business.
We now serve our neighbors in the Treasure Valley in four ways:
- You can order premium cuts of meat online and have it delivered to your doorstep for free!
- You can visit our retail meat counter at our plant in Homedale to purchase meat.
- If you own cattle, you can harvest and process your beef at our local, USDA-certified plant.
- If you own a food service business (restaurant, food truck, cafeteria, etc.), you can open a wholesale account and get free delivery of premium local meats.
