Built by Mothers: Honoring the Mothers Behind Hoagland Meat

At Hoagland Meat, our story has always been about family—and at the heart of that family are the mothers who’ve shaped our homes, our company, and our community.

This Mother’s Day, we want to shine a light on the women who have helped build Hoagland from the inside out—from the ranch, to the cutting floor, to the heart of our homes. Their impact is woven into every box we deliver, every customer we serve, and every tradition we carry forward.

Karen Hoagland, one of our founders and the heart of the Hoagland family, has always brought creativity and intention into every space she touches. Her home was more than a place to live—it was a haven. She made room for everyone and filled it with warmth, love, and purpose. Her motto—"Dream big. Work hard. Pray lots."—continues to guide not only her family, but the business she helped build.

Her son, JD, remembers that the house was always full of friends who felt like family. Karen created that. She’s the kind of mother who leads quietly but powerfully, organizing with heart and giving generously of her time and talents.

And before her was Grandma Lita—a woman of grace, grit, and quiet strength. Known for her handcrafted birdhouses and eye for beauty, Lita helped shape the ranch into a place full of charm and character. Her support was steady and unwavering, always standing beside Grandpa Jim as they worked together to build something lasting for future generations. Her creativity and devotion left a legacy that continues to inspire us today.

But the story doesn’t stop with the Hoagland family.

Many of the women who help make Hoagland Meat what it is today are behind the scenes—working in our plant, cutting meat, packing boxes, and making it possible for Idaho families to feed theirs. These women are mothers too. They work long hours, often starting before the sun comes up, and then head home to their second shift: raising kids, running households, and holding it all together. Their strength and commitment are unmatched.

This blog is our small way of saying thank you—to the moms who built this business, the moms who keep it running, and the moms we serve every day.

We see you. We honor you. And we’re proud to stand with you.

Happy Mother’s Day, from all of us at Hoagland Meat.
